Rayner Unwin first published a shorter version of this
in The Bookseller. I  wrote to him and asked if he would
allow me to publish this in a small edition. He
immediately consented and not only that, he sent me a
longer updated version. The booklet
came out just on time for the occasion of
J.R.R. Tolkien's first centenary celebrations in 1992
and all copies were practically sold during the Oxford
Tolkien conference and Oxonmoot.
